"Hey! Give it back" Yamaguchi shouted to the taller third year boy
"No. I'm gonna put it somewhere you can't reach it."
The taller of the two boys leapt up into the air, grabbed a branch of the tree, and swung his bag up even higher. Tsukishima had the flu today, and the third-year boys took it as an opportunity to pounce on him. School was over, and he was sitting outside, enjoying the good weather and doing some homework when they had decided to take his bag.
Taunting Yamaguchi brought great fun for them, he never knew why. He was so used to Tsukishima's protection that he wasn't used to protecting himself. Not that he could, anyway. He had always used Tsukki as protection, but the blonde boy had a fever today and couldn't come to school.
The two boys laughed and walked away, strutted, rather, as Yamaguchi stood, shaking in anger with his fists by his sides. He wasn't strong enough to fight them, and not nearly nimble enough to climb the tree. He was tall, around 5'9", but he was embarrassingly too clumsy to even try to retrieve his bag without hurting himself.
He fell victim to his unwieldiness every day, causing him to fall up the stairs or trip over his own feet. That was the only thing people knew him for. Well, one of two things, being close to Tsukishima and being a pathetic klutz. Ouch.
He hated himself for being so incompetent, it didn't help that nobody liked him and everyone hade fun of him. He had never had a girlfriend, unlike everyone else. Every time he did like a girl, he would either embarrass himself in front of her, be blatantly rejected, or just stay away and hope it would pass as time moved on.
He had liked (L/N)-(F/N) for the duration of high school. Even though they were only in their first year, he felt like he had known her for longer. Even if they had never spoken. He never had the courage, and assumed you wouldn't be interested, and hate him like everyone else.
After all, why would you like him. You were beautiful, funny, not popular, but everyone liked you, and you had a reputation for being funny and having good grades, and of course, your beauty. Even some very popular guys had asked you out, but you had turned them all down. you refused to date someone looks and social status.
Being in a pointless relationship for popularity was stupid. and that was why you weren't popular. you didn't care about that stuff. He sank back against the school building and began to cry. He needed his school bag and why was life so damn frustrating.
(We've all been here I swear)
You came walking out of the building at that moment, huffing and muttering something about how stupid and obnoxious your friends were, but your save softened when you saw Yamaguchi, sitting against the building with his face in his hands. You saw what was undoubtedly his bag in the tree nearby.
Oh. You recognized that bag. You paid more attention to Yamaguchi than you would care to admit, so you dropped your bag and climbed up into the tree. You found a steady limb, and grabbed the bag when
The branch you had been on broke, and you fell right onto Yamaguchi, hitting him in the face with the bag. If you could see yourself, you would see your cherry red face, but it didn't matter, because your face had already heated up so much that you could feel your cheeks burning to the touch.
" sorry about that..." you climbed off of him, and he caught a glimpse of your white lace panties.
His face turned redder than yours.
"No, it-its fine. Thank you." Having settled down, you leaned over his homework.
His homework hadn't been coming along well. The paper was covered with crossed out formulas and attempts. He nodded. Another thing for her to hate about him. His stupidity.
"Want me to explain it to you?" He nodded again. He didn't want to trouble you, but he also couldn't afford to fail math class.
You worked step by step through the problem on a piece of scratch paper that you had given him. When you finished, you noticed that his eyes were red from crying earlier. You handed back his pencil, a tiny bit of heat rising to your face when his finger touched yours.
"So. Are you okay? You've seemed kinda sad lately" oops. Now he was gonna think that you had been creepily watching him.
"I'm fine, I guess"
"Riiiiight, your fine. I'm going to the cafe near my house. Their food is really good. Wanna come?"
"The one everyone goes to" his voice got higher. He didn't want to face his teammates, with red eyes.
"Not so far as I know. I've never seen anyone from school there"
"Okay." He smiled a little. You smiled back, letting your hand brush over his ever so slightly as you picked up your bag. He loved that smile. Every time he got to see it was a gift.
You walked in silence, glancing up, looking into each other's eyes and then back at the ground. You were both somewhat shy when it came to relationships, Yamaguchi because of rejection, and you, because, well, you didn't want to screw things up.
"So, what do you want" he shrugged and looked up at the menu. You both eventually ordered some (fav. food) and tea. you ended up staying at the cafe longer than usual. Yamaguchi ended up needing more help with other assignments, and you were much obliged.
You were reaching for the check, about to leave when you knocked over a glass, causing it to spill over his lap.
"Ommygosh I'm so sorry. I live two blocks away, if you wanted to come and grab something so you don't have to go home in cold, wet clothes."
"It's okay. But, are you sure, I don't want to bother you." He looked down. He blushed. Going over to your house was exciting, but he didn't want to be a bother. He was always terrified of annoying people, and hyper aware about how long he had been hanging around someone or if he thought they wanted mom to go away, even though they usually didn't.
"It's no trouble at all."
Yamaguchi ended up wearing a pair of too-big grey sweats that you owned, but they fit him just right. By the time he was changed, it was already eight o' clock, and your favorite anime was coming on.
"Hey, (fav. Anime) is coming on, wanna watch it with me?"
his parents were away in a business trip and yours were too, giving both of you the whole house to yourselves, which meant it didn't matter if he went home that night, and you could have a boy stay the night. You sat next to each other, you could feel the body heat radiating off him, trying to suppress your urge to hug him, it might make him feel uncomfortable. Instead you softly placed your hand on top of his, curling your fingertips into a soft grip
He ended up falling asleep in the middle of your show. coming from anyone lose you would have found HIGHLY insulting, but it was impossible to harbor any hard feelings against Yamaguchi.
A few episodes later, you shook him awake. It was 9:30.
"Hey, wanna move to my room"
In his sleepy state of mind he let you guide him to your bedroom. He didn't think anything until he was on the bed next to a girl. He started to freak out, and rolled to the side. What did she want, were they friends just friends! he barely knew the girl. He started hyperventilating. He. Had anxiety attacks sometimes, especially if he was in a situation that was particularly stressful. Never having been in a relationship caused him to start panicking. What if he did something wrong?
Um, Yamaguchi" you grabbed his arm and gently maneuvered him towards you. Some of your family members had anxiety, so it was easy for you to tell that he was having an attack. He curled up, and started crying and shaking. Of all times, why now? Now she would hate him, and think he weird and he had just said that out loud. He panicked even more, face in his arms as he tried to hide his tears.
"Shh, shh, it's okay"
You wrapped your arms around him. He was so small when he curled up, like a sleeping cat. Slowly, he started to relax a little. After a while, his breaths finally slowed and heartbeat came back down to normal. When he had a bout of anxiety, Tsukki would usually find a private place and hold him against his chest until the tears stopped and he was okay again, so the hug was just what he needed. You used your hoodie sleeves to mop off any tears from his face.
laying on your back, and got him to put his head on your chest, putting an arm around him, to keep him safe. He was so adorably shy. No words were spoken, instead you exchanged understanding.
It was 11 pm when you finally got him to fall asleep, after playing some soft music and occasionally stroking his hair a bit. As a night owl, you were still awake but didn't want to bother him, so you slipped on some headphones and listened to music for a while. You used the time to examine Yamaguchi's face under the soft moonlight streaming in from your window. His freckles, soft hair. You wanted to see him with the moonlight shining in his eyes, but you knew better than to wake him for something as silly as that.
When you finally got sleepy, you unconsciously put your head on his chest and curled into his shoulder. After a while, his soft snores were enough to lull you to sleep.
you woke up and realized that Yamaguchi was still on your bed and... crap. You had overslept. You hadn't even changed out of yesterday's clothes, so you put on some fresh jeans and a hoodie, set aside some clothes for Yamaguchi, and shook him awake. You hated to wake him, but you didn't want to be late, so you decided to place a soft peck on his lips to wake him up. He blushed as he opened his eyes. You wrapped your arms around his backs and gently lifted him up, smiling.
fortunately, you had been able to find a fresh toothbrush still in the package for Yamaguchi. Both not morning people, you rushed in a slurred haze as you fixed breakfast.
You were so tired that you didn't even feel bad about Yamaguchi being subject to your cooking. Well, at least you managed not to screw up the coffee.
You got to school on time, and since you had your first class together, hurried to math. Score. Five minutes early. Your new boyfriend and being on time made you feel like a queen until Tsukishima figured everything out, after you walked into class hand in hand, both with a soft smile, his friend wearing clothes that clearly didn't belong to him. Or fit properly. Everyone else assumed it was a bad sense of style.
" So, you guys are together, you like, did it last night or..."
"we did NOT!" You didn't mind people knowing you were together, but you preferred to keep the overnight stays a secret, because you didn't want people to think that you were doing certain things.
You both looked each other in the eyes, red again, and then looked back down, blushing. He squeezed your hand even even tighter, thinking of when he had seen under your skirt yesterday. By now the whole class was looking after you yelled. Your friends would make fun of you for being with Yamaguchi, but you didn't care.
the teacher came in and saw your crimson faces but said nothing. You took seats next to each other, giving him a sheepish smile. You spent lunch together outside, under a cherry blossom tree as Tsukishima made fun of how cliche it that was. You had no other classes with him for the rest of the day.
You smiled, already looking forward to seeing him again tonight.
